OCD

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a mental health condition that involves obsessions, compulsions, or both. OCD features a pattern of unwanted thoughts and fears (obsessions) that lead you to do repetitive behaviors (compulsions). These obsessions and compulsions interfere with daily activities and cause significant distress.

Some of the symptoms to recognize OCD -
  • Needing things orderly and symmetrical
  • Doubting and having difficulty tolerating uncertainty
  • Fear of contamination or dirt
  • Unwanted thoughts, including aggression
  • Washing and cleaning
  • Checking repeated
  • Counting in certain pattern
  • Demanding reassurance

Causes - Family history, Stressful life events, Other mental health disorders such as anxiety disorders, depression, substance abuse or tic disorders.

How we help

At HMT, OCD is treated with psychotherapies involving but not limited to Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Exposure and response prevention (ERP) and Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy.
